One thing the digital camera has done is remove the darkroom out the equation, something you need if you want professional images. Ansel Adams' work was half spent in the darkroom. D70, ISO 1600, Auto Shutter 125, Lens: fixed 24mm 2.8f (digital 35mm), f-stop set at 2.8, Manual focus, Camera file format saved as Jpg fine large. Exterior Paris subway, street lights.
